Yazaki Group’s Agriculture and Food Business
The Yazaki Group began to work on new businesses, including agriculture, around 2000 when domestic hollowing began as production bases for wire harnesses shifted from Japan to overseas. With the decline in domestic production of wire harnesses, we chose to stay in the region and contribute to the community by leveraging the know-how we have developed as a manufacturing company. Problems in rural areas range from an aging population to an outflow of people.
We will continue to listen to residents' opinions and steadily contribute to the local community in Yazaki's way.
What is Sixth Industrialization?
In the rural and mountainous regions where the Yazaki Group operates, the declining birthrate, aging population and declining population are ahead of their urban counterparts. In the Company, an initiative to support rural agriculture is the sixth industrialization of agricultural business.
Sixth industrialization is the idea of expanding the potential of agriculture not as a primary industry but as an integrated industry from primary to tertiary, including secondary industries such as processing and even tertiary industries such as service and sales. (Sixth industrialization with 1 × 2 × 3 = 6)
Crops are grown, processed and sold, and the products are used as gifts in return for hometown tax payments and as souvenirs for tourism. By utilizing diverse local resources and creating added value (processed products) in the agricultural business, which is difficult for other industries to enter, the Company engages in environmentally friendly business activities to secure and improve income, secure employment opportunities in agriculture in rural and mountainous areas, and to become a company that is loved by the local community.
