Yazaki Corporation Announces the Closure of Its Production Operations in Samoa
October 11th, 2016
Yazaki Corporation hereby announces that its subsidiary in Samoa, Yazaki EDS Samoa, will close its production operations, this announcement has been communicated with the employees as well as the Samoan and Japanese government today 11th October, 2016.
2016 marks the 25th anniversary of Yazaki Corporation activities in Samoa, which started in 1991 as a branch factory of Yazaki's Australian subsidiary. This operation was transformed, in 1995, into the standalone entity, Yazaki EDS Samoa Limited, which has operated continuously since, supplying product to the Australian automotive market.
However, in the competitive, fast changing, automotive business environment, such as, the withdrawal of the OEM automotive manufacturing sector within Australia, the company must announce that it has made a decision to close its production operations in Samoa.
Leading up to the withdrawal of operations, we anticipate it will be business as usual with no decline of business activity and we remain committed to continued quality; delivery and safety which has been the foundation of the success of Yazaki EDS Samoa over these past 25 years.
Yazaki Corporation is fully committed to providing support for our employees who will be impacted from this decision. In addition, the company will continue to contribute to Samoa by providing support for a promotion of the Samoan Government's growth strategy.
The company would like to express its deepest appreciation for the People and the Government of Samoa.
